Plasma Phospholipid Long-Chain Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Total and Cause-Specific Mortality in Older Adults

Summary: Researchers looked at about 2,700 generally healthy older Americans to determine if the levels of fish-based omega-3s in their blood were associated with risk of dying. Results show older adults with higher levels of omega-3s have a 27% lower risk of prematurely dying from all causes and a 35% lower risk of dying from heart disease. The highest omega-3-eaters live, on average, 2.2 years longer than the lowest.
