Social Media Meets NFIs Global Seafood Market Conference

Meeting will feature real-time updates across Multiple Platforms

December 13, 2012 WASHINGTON, DC- The National Fisheries Institute (NFI) is adding the element of social media to Januarys second annual Global Seafood Market Conference (GSMC.) NFI will begin tweeting from the official conference Twitter account on Monday December 17th. Attendees and anyone interested in the conference are encouraged to follow @NFI_GSMC. NFI is expecting approximately 275 people to attend.

Pre-conference updates on Twitter will range from keynote speaker bios, travel logistics and Santa Monica fun-facts to a glimpse at behind the scenes preparations and any updates to the program.

During the conference, the @NFI_GSMC Twitter handle and #GSMC hash tag will provide official announcements, live-tweets from the sessions and pictures, as well as server as a platform for questions and comments.

Using Twitter will give us real-time feedback from participants, says Lynsee Fowler, Communications Coordinator at NFI. Its a good way to keep people engaged and make the conference more interactive.

Fowler says NFI plans to use Twitter as a platform for attendees to ask keynote speakers questions.

NFI is also posting a daily video blog (vlog) each morning that will feature highlights from the previous days events and a look ahead. The vlog will be promoted on Twitter and hosted on AboutSeafood.com.

NFI will also post conference updates on their LinkedIn company page.

Adding multiple social media platforms to the event is all part of the evolution of GSMC, said NFI Senior Vice President Judy Dashiell.

For more than 60 years, the National Fisheries Institute (NFI) and its members have provided American families with the variety of sustainable seafood essential to a healthy diet. For more information visit: www.AboutSeafood.com.
