Future Leaders Group Breaks Records With Service Project

Industry Professionals Fight Hunger by Raising Food, Money and Awareness

January 25, 2013 WASHINGTON, DC The 2012 class of the National Fisheries Institutes (NFI) Future Leaders program has raised more than $15,000 for Sea Share, a charity that works with the seafood community to eradicate hunger in the U.S., and donated nearly 160,000 pounds of food.

We have a dedicated group that worked on this service project and we hope weve made an impact, said class president John Roy of Bornstein Seafood. More than just what weve donated or accomplished this past year its the relationship that the thirty companies, represented by this class, have fostered and continue to foster with Sea Share that we hope will have a lasting effect.

NFIs Future Leaders program takes seafood professionals who are rising in their companies and exposes them to issues and opportunities across a broad range of industry interests. From food safety to lobbying the program ensures its graduates experience important parts of the industry that they might not otherwise touch.

This group didnt just clear the bar when it comes to their service project they really redefined where that bar is, said NFI Director of Member Relations Gerrie Thomas. Were talking about well over half a million meals donated, thousands of dollars on top of that and then volunteer service hours on top of that. Its impressive.

The Future Leaders class of 2012 will wrap up their year by volunteering at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank on Monday January 28 ahead of the Global Seafood Market Conference.

NFI is the leading trade association for the seafood industry whose members represent a variety of businesses from the water to the table. For more information visit our Web site at www.AboutSeafood.com.
