Parasite Perspective

A new article on CNN.com takes a slightly hyperbolic look at a type of tapeworm and where it might possibly be found. The hand wringing and cringe worthy details of a new study focus on uncooked salmon rather than the fact that the type of parasite has “occurred here for over a millennium.”

Properly handled salmon is cooked or frozen at specific conditions to prevent this food safety concern. The article concedes that parasite issues most often only involve “minor symptoms” if anything and are “very unusual” in the United States.

While the study is new and the research is real the presentation is close to click-bait.
