Fisheries Scholarship Fund

The Fisheries Scholarship Fund was established in 1964 and is a tax exempt, philanthropic, educational organization. The Fund is supported entirely by voluntary contributions from individuals and companies in the fish and seafood industry. The Fund is comprised of several “Perpetual Funds” that are established as either memorials or living tributes. To view the list of FSF donors, since its inception, please click here.

Each year the Fund awards scholarships to colleges, universities and institutions to conduct research to benefit the fish and seafood industry and consumers of its products. In this way the Fund offers:

  • Financial assistance to support the education of top-quality graduate students.
  • Published studies that add new scientific information about seafood.
  • A way for seafood companies to give back to a larger community.

Research supported by the Fund covers a wide range on topics including studies regarding the health effects of eating fish and seafood, fishery resources management, developments in aquaculture and acceptance of aquaculture products, food safety technologies and practices and new harvesting, farming, freezing, packaging and processing technologies. You can view and download the latest copy of the request for proposals and a list of research priorities and guidelines for submitting proposals to the Fund. Here is the list of 2010 FSFapproved proposals.

Research supported by the Fund is published to provide reliable scientific information for the seafood industry and seafood consumers.
