"At EWG, our team of scientists, engineers, policy experts, lawyers and computer programmers pores over government data, legal documents, scientific studies and our own laboratory tests to expose threats to your health and the environment, and to find solutions."
EWG's claims about threats to public health don't go unchallenged. In 2003, the Consumer Products Safety Commission rejected a petition from EWG asking that the agency require warning labels on Teflon cookware.
In 2006, FDA rejected a petition from EWG concerning the safety of grease-resistant paper products. A May 2009 survey by the Center for Health and Risk Communications found that 79% of toxicologists believe that EWG exaggerates the health risk from chemicals.
