Seafood buffet at @FSHualalai

Lloyd and I got back late last night from our very last Hawaiian “island hop.”  We knew the second we found out we would be stationed on Oahu that the next few years would be our very best/maybe only opportunity to get to know all the Hawaiian Islands.  So we vowed to visit each of them (that you can) and I’m thrilled we accomplished that goal.  Some of them, like the Big Island, have called us to stopover more than once because there is so much to see.  I’ve experienced the Big Island from a rustic bed and breakfast with Lloyd, a condo full of girlfriends, a cozy cabin with my parents, and a house with my whole McGuire family.  But there was still one way to do the Big Island on my bucket list – a schmancy resort.  We’ve heard from friends the Four Seasons Hualalai is arguably the nicest place to stay in all of Hawaii, so we staked out a good local deal and splurged on one precious night there.  It was still pricey, but worth every single penny.

Here is the view that welcomed us…

And the best seafood buffet we could ever imagine…

Usually a lazy, loungey resort retreat isn’t my vacation style, but I felt if there was ever a time to kick up my heels and revel in the ability to do nothing, it’s now.  That’s because, in addition to being our last hurrah, this trip was also our early babymoon!  We are overjoyed to be expecting a mini McGuire in November.

So, while leaving Hawaii is going to be sad and the end to an era of incredible experiences, we have an even more amazing adventure on the horizon!

I am passionate about good food, cooking, and helping others prepare healthy and tasty meals. Fish—packed with omega-3 fatty acids and protein—is a staple of those meals. In my role as a registered dietitian with the National Fisheries Institute, I track and translate the latest news on the nutritional benefits of seafood. My background includes degrees in Human Nutrition and Communications. I work with food and beverage groups, as well as individuals, teach nutrition to culinary students and create wellness programs for employers. I also often provide commentary for news media. When I am not cooking a healthy meal or running after my two young children, you can find me running, hiking or practicing yoga.

During college, one of my very favorite evening outings was a leisurely trip to the grocery market. My passion for food was undeniable, so I combined both of my interests by earning my MS in Nutrition Communication from Tufts University in Boston, MA. As well as my Registered Dietitian (RD) credential through the University of Delaware. I live in Beaufort, SC where my husband serves as a US Marine Corps Judge Advocate. I love to entertain, travel, watch reality TV, grill outdoors, run, and practice yoga.
