The United States Department of Agriculture says twice a week, make seafood the protein on your plate. Increase the amount and variety of seafood consumed by choosing seafood in place of some meat and poultry.

diced tomato pasta with anchovies and shallots

pasta

I’m back on track with, not only edible, but very tasty lunches.  Today I made a simple diced tomato pasta with anchovies, shallots, salt, pepper, and the juice of half a lemon for flavor.  Anchovies absolutely melt away when you heat them, so I really do consider them flavor like any other spicing. Of course, this is just about the only spicing you’ll find that also packs 83 milligrams omega-3 PER ANCHOVY! That’s about 33 percent of your daily needs in one teeny fish.
Jennifer, Love your blog and the food looks great! I am an RD (UD '97/MS '98, in fact!) and have worked in an ob/gyn office for the last 8 years. One of our midwives brought "A Seafood Lover's Guide To Eating During Pregnancy" back from a recent conference and I can't find where to order more. It is published by the NFI, 2010. Any information you have on how to obtain these would be appreciated. Congrats on your blog - I will definitely keep reading! Jennifer F. Greenly, MS, RD/LDN
Hi Jennifer - Thanks so much for reading the blog and asking about the Seafood Lover's Guide. It is brand new and will be available online for downloads and purchase very soon. If you send me an email, I can be sure to let you know when it's available. jmcguire@nfi.org Did you know I did my dietetic internship through UD? Jennifer

About Jennifer

I am a registered dietitian with the National Fisheries Institute, so fish is my nutrition forte. I earned my BA in Communication from Southwestern University, just outside of Austin, TX. During college, one of my very favorite evening outings was a leisurely trip to the grocery market. My passion for food was undeniable, so I combined both of my interests by earning my MS in Nutrition Communication from Tufts University in Boston, MA. As well as my Registered Dietitian (RD) credential through the University of Delaware.

Beyond reading scientific studies about docosahexaenoic acid and selenium, I love to entertain, travel, watch reality TV, grill outdoors, and go to spin class. I live in Kailua, HI on the island of Oahu where my husband serves as a US Marine Corps JAG.

People in Hawaii eat more fish and shellfish than average, but over 80 percent of typical Americans don't eat seafood at least twice per week. Doctors and dietitians like me say that's the goal, so BlogAboutSeafood is here to show you just what plenty of seafood looks like in an RD's real-life diet.
