On Columbus Day I did a little journeying myself. After a harrowing flight over the Pacific
(OK, it was smooth as could be and I slept most of the way) I'm back on the
mainland for a little over a week - visiting colleagues for a few days in
Washington, DC and then attending the 2009
American Dietetic Association Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo (ADA
FNCE) in Denver. Lloyd and I had a fun
Sorry for the delayed weekend wrap-up - I was a little rusty
yesterday after three full days of leisure.
But I got up this morning, went on a nice jog, and am now back in to the
swing of things.
The Big
Island was so much fun. Our first morning, we ate a hearty breakfast
of shrimp eggs Benedict along the Kona waterfront. Good call on the heartiness, because our
stargazing tour that afternoon required some endurance - we didn't get home
until after midnight, but it was well
worth it.
Lloyd and I have a goal of visiting all the Hawaiian islands over our
2.5 years here, and decided on a whim to get to it over the weekend. We booked a last minute cheap flight to Kauai, "the garden island," arriving Saturday morning
and returning Sunday night. While lazy
weekends definitely have their place, it's amazing
how much living you can pack in to 43 hours if you try. We started off Saturday with a few hours at
beautiful Poipu Beach...
Yesterday afternoon my parents-in-law arrived, and we wasted
no time flaunting the fresh seafood Hawaii
has to offer. Straight from the airport,
Lloyd made a beeline for Tamashiro's to show it off and get four servings of our
favorite yellow fin tuna. And then, since
I wasn't feeling well, he cooked the entire Seared
Ahi Tuna meal for us while we visited.
